Shraaddh Karm
Shraddha Karma
Shraddha Karma is a sacred and important religious ritual in Hinduism. Its purpose is to offer tarpan to the ancestors and pray for the peace of their souls. This karma is especially performed in the Pitru Paksha (Shraddha Paksha), which runs from the full moon to the new moon of the Bhadrapada month. This ritual is performed according to the family tradition and the rituals mentioned in the Vedas, Shruti-Smriti texts.
Importance of Shraddha Karma
1. To provide peace and liberation to the soul of ancestors.
2. To wish for happiness, prosperity and well-being in the family.
3. To receive the blessings of ancestors.
4. It is believed that through Shraddha, a person can get freedom from his sins and faults.

Method of Shraddha Karma
1. Sankalp: Shraddha Karma begins with Sankalp. In this, the head member of the family takes a vow to start the ritual by pronouncing his gotra, name and purpose.
2. Pind Daan: This is the most important part of Shraddha. Pinds (round shaped rice balls) are made by mixing rice, sesame seeds, cow milk, and ghee. These are offered to the ancestors, usually by sitting on a Kush seat.
3. Tarpan: Sesame seeds are mixed in water and offered to the ancestors with chanting of mantras. This is called Tarpan, and it is the main way to satisfy the ancestors.
4. Food Offering: Specially satvik food is prepared for the ancestors, such as kheer, puri, vegetables, etc. This food is offered to crows, cows, dogs, and ants, as they are seen as symbols of ancestors.
5. Brahmin feast and donation: Feeding and donating to Brahmins is the last step of Shraddha Karma. In this, clothes, dakshina, food etc. are donated.
Navgraha Shanti Puja through Aastha Path in Haridwar pacifies the planetary defects and paves the way for happiness, peace, and progress in life.
